Joe Wayne and I were very close friends in school and had renewed our friendship in the last two years. He spent the weekend with us twice after Lois' death. However, repeated attempts to contact him in the last year has been unsuccessful. No one in the Wichita would respond and his phone was disconnected. Jo Ann Greer and I made many calls trying to contact him. I'm so sorry about that.
On a brigher note, I'll relate an experience we had. Joe Wayne, Ron Cardinalle and I went to Herrington lake skiing. Ron couldn't swim so we decided Ron and I would ski together and Joe Wayne would pilot the boat. To see better, Joe Wayne decided to sit on the bow and guide the boat with his feet. Unfortunately, we hit a wake and he went in the water. So, Ron and I were skiing without a boat pilot. All the time the owner of the marina was hollering he was going to kill us all when we got to the dock. It ended when the boat hit another boat and sank it. We all survived and, thanks to Joe Wayne's parents' homeowner's policy, the other boat was paid for. It's an experience I will never forget. Joe Wyne and I have laughed many times about that, but it sure wasn't funny that day. By the way. We also skoipped school that day; the only day I skipped during my school career. I had told Mr. Hume I wasn't going to graduate high school without skipping school at least one day. When I got to school the next day he raised his eyebrows at me but didn't say anything. I needed that after the day before's experience.
Rest in Peace, Joe Wayne. You deserve all that Heaven has for you. And I'm sure Lois welcomed you with open arms.
I'm so sorry to hear of Joe Wayne's passing. He is most certainly present with the Lord. I met him while at Picadome Elementary and even then enjoyed hearing him sing. He and Lois sang at our wedding. What an outstanding person he was. I treasure the framed copy he sent me of his "America's Prayer of Repentance" which he gave to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1996. I am blessed to have known him. He will surely be missed. Prayers and sympathy for his family.
Joe, Walter Anderson, Tom Mc Goodwin, and I were the best of friends and shared many wonderful, crazy times. Ms. Dennis called us her Four Musketeers. He and Louis were true life partners. I am very, very sad to hear he is gone, but I know he had a wonderful life with Louis.
It always so hard to read when we loose another classmate. I attended from Picadome to 10th grade. In Middle School taking Chorus, I think of Joe Wayne and Lois and being in my class. I remember so many times Joe Wayne singing O Danny Boy. What a beautiful voice and a sweet classmates, both Joe Wayne and Lois. My sincere comfort to the family.
Yes, David, I remember that. I remember Ron laying down on the dock and crying since he was the one who borrowed it from you. Sure wish you had gone with us. Maybe it wouldn't have happened. Oh, the memories!
