Byron Graves was one of my closest friends, during my senior year at Lafayette.  Having come from a small school in NC to the largest high school in Ky for my senior year, I was very intimidated because of not knowing anyone.  Byron and I were in the band together and he asked me for a ride home after school one day.  I learned that his Dad was the farm manager at Darby Dan farm---which wasn't very close to Lafayette.  Since I had a car and Byron didn't, we made many trips in and around Lexington together.  We once spent most of the night (and morning) driving around town, entertaining some band students from Louisville.  I only saw Byron one time after graduation and was only able to speak to him briefly.  I will always remember Byron's good nature and smile and the many adventures we shared.  I was truly saddened to hear of his passing.
